Children are the Same All Over the World

No matter where you go, you can seeing children playing, smiling, and laughing with unabashed innocence. Are there places with suffering, pain, and even death, of course there are. But even in the midst of poverty and despair, you will still find children who somehow, perhaps only in brief moments, do what children do, have fun. This week’s Discover Challenge is Portraits, which got us thinking about the children that we met in Bolivia. We especially enjoyed meeting Bellina, a little girl from a small village who graciously allowed us to take her photograph. Although we love the coy smile in the one picture where she looked at the camera, the photo where she is just sitting quietly is perhaps an even better window into her personality.

Sitting Pretty

We decided to head to the beaches of the Dominican Republic for this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Legs and Feet. It seems to be a pretty common fad these days to take photos with your legs dangling in the foreground of a beautiful landscape shot. We don’t do that normally ourselves, but we did actually take a picture of our feet with the Caribbean Ocean in the background when we were in Punta Cana a little less than two years ago.

Not the greatest of photos, but when visiting the temples in India, you must take your shoes off, so here we are in a temple in Chennai.

Daily Post Photo Challenge – Morning

We’ve said it many times, we are not morning people, so perhaps this is truly a challenge for us. When we think about memorable mornings, they are definitely all from travelling, when forced to make ourselves get up early in order to see as much as possible. Having said that, probably our most memorable mornings were from Iceland this past February. Because the sun rose so late, after 9:00 a.m., and the days were so short, seeing the sun rise over the frozen ice fields was truly something special. We want to return to Iceland, probably during autumn, but until then we hope you enjoy a few of the sunrises that we saw during our trip.
