Delicious Goose Dinner

We were told the other day that it is goose season here in Germany at the moment. We decided to go ahead and have the goose dinner at our local restaurant and we couldn’t have been more pleased. The goose was succulent and moist and was accompanied by red cabbage with apple and potato dumplings. Needless to say, pictures don’t provide justice to how good this meal truly was. We have cooked goose and duck at home ourselves and it can be a tricky meal to make due to the fattiness of the skin, but this goose was cooked to perfection. We have had some wonderful German meals since our arrival, but perhaps this might have been the best for a traditional German dinner.

Walking with Locks of Love

We haven’t been consistent with sharing for Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge, but we thought we would try to participate more often. For this week, we decided to use a photo from here in Frankfurt. This is the pedestrian bridge that takes you from Altenstadt (Old Town) Frankfurt into the suburb of Sachsenhausen. Sachsenhausen is home to some of the best local restaurants in town as well as a lot of lively pubs, at least from what we understand. The love locks on fences, like these on the bridge, are always intriguing wherever they are found and we definitely enjoyed seeing these. We have wondered over this bridge several times now and will enjoy crossing it to share a meal, perhaps even with one of the locals that we have met.

The Best of the Wurst

Most everyone knows that there are a lot of different sausages in Germany, including the one most commonly known in the United States, Bratwurst. We have had the opportunity to try several varieties of wursts and most have been extremely good. They are often, but not always, served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes or on a bun with mustard.

We have seen many people eating Frankfurt’s gift to the world, the frankfurter, but we have yet to try the local version for ourselves.  Perhaps it is because, once we moved into our apartment, we now consider ourselves to be Frankfurters 😀. In addition to trying the various sausages, we have also had a couple different versions of schnitzel. They also have been very delicious, however neither of these German staples are very health conscious.

We look forward to trying some of these same dishes in some of the smaller hamlets to see how they vary throughout the different regions of Germany, but we will need to do a lot of walking to justify eating that much rich food. As for our favorite meal so far, we will have to say that they were each good in their own way and perhaps the quintessential experience is yet to be had. Obviously there is a wide variety of food in Frankfurt and we have eaten many different styles of food since we have arrived, but we’ll share some of those meals later.
