The Denver Botanic Gardens – A Beautiful Oasis

There are several cities with wonderful botanical gardens, but we believe that the Denver Botanic Gardens is one of the best. Between the tropical flowers, rotating art displays, and special events, there is always something interesting to see at the gardens. We especially enjoyed the variety of colorful orchids that we saw during our visit there. It is a great way to spend a summer afternoon, walking the flower lined paths and seeing the gardens dedicated to different regions around the world.

The Denver Botanic Gardens will often create displays on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver to allow shoppers to see some of the wonderful flowers that can be found there. The colors are definitely amazing and the time spent there is very relaxing. If you are planning a trip to Denver, we’d definitely recommend that you consider adding the Botanic Gardens to your itinerary.

The Color Purple

The orchid is one of the most beautiful, if not delicate, flowers in the world. For this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge Purple we decided to use a photo of an orchid that we took last summer at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Obviously we prefer to capture flowers in their natural environment, but these were just too beautiful to ignore. There is a place for zoos and botanical gardens, bringing the beauty of the world to those who are not able to travel the world. We find the same inspiration in travel shows and books that describe the wonder of the world that we may never see, but hope to visit one day, if we are fortunate enough to have the opportunity.

A Departure from the Norm

This week’s Daily Post Discover Challenge is to take a risk and write a post that takes us out of our comfort zone. Blogging in general has taken us out of comfort zone as we continue to share more and more about ourselves as much as about our travels. Early in our marriage, Pete would write poetry to Dona often, including writing her a poem on a napkin the night that we first met. Unfortunately, work and life have reduced the frequency of the poems, but not the sentiments that we both share towards one another.

Below is a poem that was written less than two months after we first met.  Don’t worry, you won’t be seeing poetry on our site on a regular basis.  And, since we always try to put a photo with our posts, we’ve included a couple of pictures of orchids, which like love, need to be carefully tended to in order to bring out their full beauty.

Purple Orchid

In your eyes I see a smile that warms my heart.

In your touch I feel a passion that stirs my soul.

In your kiss I get lost in a world of emotion that I wish would never end.

With my arm around you, I feel so secure.

When I talk to you, I feel that I could conquer the world and make it our own.

When you hug me, my blood begins to boil with the passion from within.

When we’re together, nothing matters except that I’m with you.

When we’re apart, I feel the pull of my soul, which feels incomplete.

Never in my life have I felt emotion so strong that with the mere mention of your name, I get flustered and confused.

Never in my life have I ever truly felt anything until the day that we met.
