We had a couple of ideas for this week’s photo challenge, abstract, but ultimately we decided on this photo that was taken from our yard several years ago. We actually get skies like that from time to time here in Colorado and usually it means that there is going to be a tornado. Fortunately we didn’t see a tornado that day, but it was definitely an eerie sight.
This tree trunk from one of our hikes in Yellowstone looked like it might start following us.
For Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Happy, we once again had a difficult time figuring out what to post. Our first thought was to use one of our pictures from hiking in the mountains, because that always makes us happy. We could have easily put a picture of our children doing what they love, they are always hamming it up for the camera. In the end, we decided to go with this photo from Puerto Vallarta. Perhaps it is just because we’re both a little tired with work at the moment, or maybe its just that we’re getting a little older these days, but the thought of hopping on a ship and sailing into the sunset to some new destination yet unknown, seems really appealing to us right now. Hopefully this will take you to a happy place of your own.
Many years ago we were introduced to someone at an event and they asked us who we were. We replied with our typical answer at the time, that we were Pete and Dona and told him what our roles were at our current companies. He looked us and said, “that is what you do, not who you are, let me know about you, not your jobs”. Those words have remained with us to this day and we’ve passed that same wisdom along to our children, don’t define yourself by your career, you are much more than that.
For this week’s Daily Post Discover Challenge – Identity, we tried to envision how we could describe identity using a photograph. We looked at pictures of ourselves at different times and locations, but that isn’t who we are, it is just someplace we’ve been. The more that we thought about it, the more that we came to the conclusion that we are an accumulation of the events of our lives. So, like a river that changes its course over time, we too have changed courses many times as our lives have flowed towards the future. With that in mind, we decided to use a photo of a river near Minturn, Colorado.
