That might sound like an exaggeration, but for us it is actually true. Considering that we would have been out of the country 3 to 4 times since the shutdown started in March, we find ourselves not just sad and frustrated, but truly depressed at times. We are making every effort to stay active and continue to provide information on a regular basis, but there are days when looking at photographs of previous trips is just too much to do. We had truly hoped that things would have improved by now, however it seems that things are once again getting worse and places are shutting down yet again.
We look forward to seeing new places and actually enjoy the entire travel experience. What is probably hardest is not meeting new people and hearing from them about their culture. We have teased several times that we’ll just have to travel twice as much next year, but clearly that isn’t reasonable and also assumes that somehow things will truly open back up again. We try not to get depressed when thinking about travel because, after all, we have our health and are together and most people consider travel a luxury. We think about all of our friends who rely on the travel industry for their livelihoods and feel for them knowing how difficult it must be on them. We apologize if the moods of our posts are not as upbeat as they usually would be, we will try to stay motivated in these trying times.
I can so relate to this! It’s really starting to hit me bad, I’m so eager to travel again. Fingers crossed things improve in 2021
We hope so too!
I think everyone is struggling with mental health right now. I hope we can travel sooner than later, but I’m not counting on it any time soon. Wishing you health (both physical and mental) and safety.
Thank you. We hope we can travel soon as well, but not sure that will even happen in 2021.
I’m pretty sure you’re right about about that, but I’m hoping you’re wrong.
We would be glad to be wrong 🙂
It’s a hard time to feel the tug of adventure and know there is very little to be had. Hopefully soon!! Wishing you well:)
That is is. We are keeping our fingers crossed. You too!
As a regular business traveler who’s on the road sometimes 75 nights a year, with personal travel on top of that, I’m actually enjoying this little stay close to home break.
Sure, I’d love to be in Europe or South East Asia enjoying food and scenery, but we’ll all get back to that really soon.
Stay safe and healthy!
You too!
Ah – like yourselves, we would have travelled abroad 3/4 times since March. For a while it was ‘ well doesn’t look like we’ll get away next month’ to now with ‘ I wonder about next year’. We survived the summer quite well on this tiny dot on the map I call home. We visited a few different parts of the country on short breaks and I’m still writing about them so that’s good at least. We’d intended maybe going away for a night or two each month but sure that fell apart in October with a new set of restrictions….
I frequently remind myself of how fortunate I am – I’m not on my own, I’m retired so not worried about my job or business, no kids left here to be watched over and motivated….
BUT….there’s a massive hole in my life … I really want to get away!! At best, I’m hoping for this time next year – late 2021. I’m not making any plans or wondering where we’ll go….I just know that I’ll be on a plane – to somewhere (preferably hot!!) – as soon as I can within reason.
I’m surviving by not even thinking of next week.. and I don’t know about you, but I find the days are absolutely flying by.. which must be a good thing! Roll on 2021!!!
We agree. We can hardly believe that it is November already.
We have that conversation about how fortunate we are. All of our kids are grown and live on their own. We are healthy and we have each other.
It has been tough trying to travel in the US because of all of the different restrictions by state. Some require you to quarantine, others still have restaurants closed, etc. It will get there 🙂
We agree 100% – Roll on 2021!!!
I can relate to this!!!
It is tough. I had plans to travel to Turkey and Kenya this year. Let’s pray next year will go to plan.
Totally understand. Keeping our fingers crossed that travel will resume soon.
I love this writeup… Thank you so much for sharing this piece. I really appreciate!
I also have an article written on how to Fight and fix Depression.. Please check it out here! https://www.nuellaigwe.com/depression-as-an-illness/

Hang in there! Fortunately we can still travel locally (South Africa) and we try to take advantage of that and discover our beautiful country and continent 🙂
We are :). Thank you.
Traveling is such a beautiful addiction!
It definitely is!
