Frozen Gullfoss Waterfall

In the past few weeks, we have met several friends who were about to head to Iceland or had just returned. This is a wonderful time of year to visit since it is before the majority of the crowds arrive, the ground is starting to thaw, and there is still a good opportunity to see the Northern Lights. We went during February of 2016 and it was definitely cold, so much so that the famous Gullfoss Waterfall was still mostly frozen and yet strangely beautiful. It is one of the major attractions on the Golden Circle, a route that takes you to many of the natural wonders the island nation has to offer. Although we weren’t fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights, we did enjoy every minute of our brief trip to Iceland. For this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge, Winter – Water, we couldn’t help but think of standing before the falls, ice-cold water spray freezing on our faces, and looking in awe at the beauty of nature. We are sure it is spectacular during the summer months as well, but we will always treasure seeing it in the harshest of seasons, winter.

Reaping What You Sow

Some of you may have noticed that we have been a little quiet this week. We moved into our new place in Colorado Springs this past weekend, so we have been busy unpacking boxes and making it feel like home. It has been quite time consuming, especially with work, but we are almost at a point where we feel a sense of normalcy. For this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge, Harvest – Earth, we chose photos that represent harvesting earth’s bounties, but are also counting our own blessings as to being home surrounded by our own furniture once again. The first photo is of a church with a wine vineyard in the small town of Hochheim, Germany.

We saw a lot of humble farmers during our trip to Bolivia. Despite not having any modern equipment, they are still able to produce an abundance of crops.

Summer in the Rockies

Springtime in the Rockies is definitely a time of extremes and this year has been no different. In the front range of Colorado, March and April are actually the snowiest months, not the typical winter months. In the past thirty days, we have had three significant snow storms and we are a little tired of the snow and would prefer rain over snow at this point. On the bright side, these spring storms are extremely necessary and make for beautiful conditions in the summer. This week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge is Summer – Fire, two words that people in Colorado never want to hear in the same sentence. For this photo challenge we chose a few photos from previous summers that represent various images indicative of summertime in the Rocky Mountains. It is mostly beautiful, but sometimes volatile. We chose a couple of picture-perfect summer days in the mountains, a typical summertime sunset, angry storm clouds that we don’t want to see, and finally a picture from the Waldo Canyon Fire, something we would prefer to forget.
