We were fortunate that our hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands, had incredible views of the city from its rooftop lounge. Seeing the labyrinth of buildings from above is always a wonderful way to get a true sense of a city. We have mentioned previously that we almost always try to see the places that we visit from both the street level as well as from a tall building, tower, hill, or even cable car. This was definitely true of the places that we visited while we were in Europe, so when this week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge came out with Atop, we had plenty of cities to choose from. Hopefully you’ll enjoy these views as much as we did.
We are firm believers that success and happiness are the result of hard work and treating people with kindness and respect, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t use a little help sometimes. With that said, there is nothing wrong with believing in some superstitions and hoping that a little luck comes your way. It is a proven fact that thinking about winning the lottery and what you might do with the money actually releases endorphins, the chemical that provides a good feeling and a sense of contentment. So, even though you may never win the lottery, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with hoping that it could happen someday. When we were in Rome, Italy, we visited the Trevi Fountain, where coins are thrown with the right hand over the left shoulder into the fountain hoping that your wishes will come true. Even if your wish doesn’t come true, the money tossed into the fountain is used to provide food for those less fortunate, so maybe you are making someone else’s wish come true.
This week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge is Wish, so enjoy some images of the Trevi Fountain, which is absolutely stunning. In addition to photos of the fountain, we also have included some pictures of a wishing tree in a temple in Chennai, India. Women tie brightly colored ribbons onto the tree wishing for marriage, children, or other life-fulfilling events.
We have mentioned before that we like taking photos from above the places that we are visiting, that it provides a unique perspective that can’t be found from just walking the streets. The also is true when flying, when you get a chance to see cities, towns, or the countryside in unique and different ways. For this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge, Looking Down at Things, we found some recent examples that remind us of how lucky we have been to visit so many amazing places. The first photo is actually of a sunset where the sun was setting below the clouds during our flight to Athens in January. We also chose a photo of the Carpathian mountains from our flight home from Romania. Finally, we chose photos from Paris and Amsterdam from the past couple of weeks. We hope that you enjoy the images as much as we enjoyed having the opportunity to capture them.
