Life in Movement

Life is a perpetual series of events that change our perceptions, sometimes define who we are, as well as influence our world view. Before going to bed last night, we learned of the news of the attack in Berlin and obviously we are terribly saddened to hear of another horrific attack. It is easy to close one’s door, lock out the world, and try to hide from the events that surround us all. We do not want to let fear and threats keep us from moving forward, fallowing the path that life is leading us, or enjoying the beauty that the world has to offer. With that in mind, tonight we will visit the Christmas market here in Frankfurt, not in defiance, but with an honest understanding that life is unpredictable and that the motion of life, not stagnation, is what makes it special. Every ebb and flow brings new understandings, new experiences, and sometimes pain and sadness. We have already booked a trip to Prague for the Christmas weekend as well as a trip to Athens for the New Year’s weekend. With all of that said, this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge is Chutes and Ladders, symbols of movement through a child’s board-game. We will continue to move forward, to not stop progressing through life in the best way that we know how, so for this week’s challenge we are sharing a few photos that remind of us of that simple child’s game as well as the perpetual motion of life.

You are a Sum of Your Experiences

There are many factors that ultimately shape who you are as a human being. Whether you believe in nature or believe in nurture as the fundamental building blocks to us as human beings, there can be no escaping the fact that your experiences add to who you are as a human being. The people that you meet, the places that you see, the customs and cultures that you learn to understand, all have an indelible impact upon how you view the world around you. There might be some factors that are bestowed upon you at birth, but we believe that your experiences do influence the way that you interact with the world. The Daily Post Discover Challenge this week is Finding Your Place, talking about the places that have shaped who we are. For us, it is a simple and yet complex answer. The places that have influenced us the most are those that have pushed our cultural limits. With that in mind, here are a few photos from the places that have stretched our limits the most, India, Morocco, Bolivia, and even Germany due to the length of time that we have been here. Each of these locations have left a distinct imprint on our souls and we will never be the same without these unique opportunities to view the world through different eyes.

Just on the Horizon

As another year draws to a close, we often reflect on the year that has been as well as think about the future ahead of us. We don’t tend to dwell too much on the past or worry too much about what may lie ahead as we have seen plans come and go within the blink of an eye. Instead, we prefer to live in the moment while still preserving the memories of the times that we have shared. When we say that we don’t dwell in the past, we mean that we do not think about what might have been, what things we wish we would have done, or generally feel regrets about lost opportunities. Life tends to happen whether you stress and worry about it or not, so one of our favorite sayings is that we have made mistakes, but have no regrets as we wouldn’t be the people that we are without those experiences, both good and bad. This week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge – New Horizon asks that we share a new perspective for the new year or something that we would like to accomplish in the upcoming months. We love looking off to the horizon, wondering what treasures and sights might lie just beyond, but we aren’t making any grandiose plans. Our goal for the year ahead is to continue to travel whenever possible, share those experiences as best as we can, grow closer as a couple, and be the best world citizens that we possibly can be. We hope that the New Year brings to all of you many happy days and those things that make you feel fulfilled and satisfied. Here are a few photos of the horizon to get us all thinking about the year ahead.
